Creating Effective Talent Snapshot Questions

Shivani Panchal Updated by Shivani Panchal

Talent Snapshots enable you to gather data from managers about employees' performance, potential, or related matters. To create effective questions, follow these steps:

  1. Identify the Core Question

Think about the one key question you would ask if you could only have one. This helps you get to the heart of what you're trying to uncover.

  1. Expand to 4-5 Questions with Yes/No Responses

Limit your questions to yes or no responses to force targeted wording and reduce subjectivity.

  1. Review and Refine Your Questions

Check if you need additional response options or questions. If so, consider dropping existing questions to keep the total to 5.

  1. Assess Differentiation

Imagine how managers might answer each question. If the answers won't provide the differentiation you need, reword the questions.

  1. Test with Managers

Ask a few managers to answer the questions for their team members. Check if they can answer easily, understand the questions, and stay engaged.

  1. Make Final Adjustments

Adjust your questions based on manager feedback.

General Tips

  • Keep questions to a maximum of 5 for more accurate and objective answers.
  • Read questions from a manager's perspective to ensure clarity and ease of answering.
  • Consider separate rounds for different insights, such as pay or promotion/succession questions.

By following these steps and tips, you can create effective Talent Snapshot questions that provide valuable insights into your employees' performance and potential.
